Baldwin Wallace’s Brain Center has partnered with local toy drives to keep the spirit of giving back this holiday season.

195 items have already been donated this holiday season with more time available for students and faculty to have the opportunity to help local children receive the items on their holiday wish lists.

Manimone Sengvoravong, a senior neuroscience student, is the student director of Students Engaging Reflecting and Volunteering Every year. Sengvoravong said that the passion to colloborate with other organizations is seeing the way it can help the community.

“What inspires me to work with these organizations is having the opportunity to learn and grow from them and give back,” Sengvoravong said. “I think it is a way for students and faculty to get involved without a heavy commitment. Outside organizations love to collaborate and this helps build the relationship between us.”

The organizations used for this year’s drive are West Side Catholic Center, located in Cleveland, and Cuyahoga County Division of Family and Children Services, which is also known as Hope for the Holidays.

Anne Antes, first-year BA acting major, said she wanted to give as much as she could this holiday season, and has so far made a total of seven donations.

“I hope it gives them joy,” Antes said. “It’s a small thing that can make a big difference. Even if you don’t donate there’s ways to help or be involved in the conversation.”

Sengvoravong said that for those who have not donated, there is still plenty of time and ways to give back this holiday season.

“Do not feel guilty about being unable to participate,” Sengvoravong said. “There are other ways to get engaged outside of monetary service. Also, asking for help and asking questions is always a great start!”
