This Sunday’s Browns game against the Ravens was tough to watch. Our defense played unbelievably well. They gave us the lead heading into halftime, 16-10.
Unfortunately we never scored again. It was the kind of thing we’ve seen all year, and exactly what I expected. After the pick-six in the first half, I was excited of course, but I knew that we’d lose the game. It seems that no matter how well the defense plays, the offense consistently loses us games.
I mean, check out this pick-six.

Pretty incredible stuff. Oh, and Myles Garrett had three sacks, putting him at 15 on the season and on pace for 25.5 for the season, three more than the all-time record.
And yet the Browns have won only two games all year. Same story every game. The defense wins, and the offense chokes.
This is where Shedeur Sanders comes in. The high-profile rookie from Colorado and son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders has a chance to turn this offense around.
The truth of the matter is, he didn’t look as great as everyone was hoping on Sunday. But in all fairness to him, he was at the bottom of the depth chart all season, hardly getting first team reps. Only recently was he elevated to QB2, and then he was thrust into the game unexpectedly after Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion.
So you have to cut the man some slack. And besides, he had his moments. He had a deep ball to Harold Fannin that looked pretty, which is something Gabriel has struggled with all year long.
While Shedeur Sanders struggled mightily in his NFL debut today, this throw was more impressive than any Dillon Gabriel has made all year, and reason enough for the #Browns to start Sanders the rest of the year. pic.twitter.com/M2UujvIYwN

This Sunday’s matchup against Las Vegas is the perfect starting opportunity for Sanders. This is the week to prove himself. The Raiders have a pretty poor defense, and I have a feeling Garrett and Co. will have no trouble stopping Geno Smith and the Vegas offense, which will give Sanders even more time on the field.
Sanders has been the media’s darling since even before the draft. He will be in the national spotlight on Sunday, and this is his chance to shine. The Browns have had spotlight QBs before. Johnny Manziel cracked under the pressure. Baker Mayfield proved himself to be a franchise starter (even though the Browns eventually let him go).
Which will Shedeur be?
I personally am a Shedeur believer. I wasn’t shocked that he wasn’t a top draft pick like many thought he would be, but looking at his college tape, he’s certainly worthy of a shot in the NFL. He’s got a nice deep ball, and he’s a good, comfortable pocket passer. On Sunday against Baltimore, he held on to the ball too long, but that’s something he can work on. He has yet to get used to NFL-caliber defensive lines. He will get there.
If you need a reason to have hope, go to YouTube and watch his college highlights. I certainly will. The talent is there, and the mindset seems to be as well. And now he has his opportunity.
The question is, will it all be enough to overcome playing for the Browns? The same Browns team that’s cycled to new quarterbacks practically once every year, sometimes more? Maybe this is the man who can turn Cleveland football around.
Sunday’s game should be a good benchmark of what Sanders’ future looks like, but it shouldn’t be overvalued. After all, it will only be one game. Still yet, it would be an amazing feeling as a Cleveland fan if he went out there and threw for 250 yards and 2 TDs.
I saw him Tuesday at our campus rec center here at Baldwin Wallace. Not sure what he was doing, maybe working out with some athletes, but whatever it was, maybe he’ll carry some of the Yellow Jacket magic into Sunday’s game. We can only hope.
Let’s go ahead and get this win. Cleveland’s got your back, Shedeur.
