This semester, Baldwin Wallace University is looking to hire a new provost to help students with their academics and manage academic programs at the university.
A provost’s role is typically to work on choosing departments that fit the specialties of each student with their respective programs and make sure students have what they need to successfully complete school and launch a career.
“Think of it as a CEO,” says Daniel Karp, the vice president of marketing and communications at Baldwin Wallace. “They are in charge of the entire academic delivery of BW and the BW experience.”
Currently, the interim provost is Dr. Catherine Dollard, who came in from Denison University. She will serve through the spring semester and is fulfilling all the provost’s duties while the University is searching for a full-time candidate.
“It is a big process of finding someone when it is so important to a university, so you have to work to make sure that they are the correct fit, so it is in the works now.” says Karp. “Currently we don’t have a timeline for when the process will be completed. “
Karp says they are hoping to hire someone who understands the goals and spirit of BW, and someone who will focus on what is in the classroom and support both students and faculty.
“We are hoping for someone with good leadership ability, someone who knows how to blend the needs of the students and their programs, and someone who has a track record in success for existing and new programs,” Karp says. “Most of the candidates are very experienced in higher education and come from other universities.”
