From the moment he picked up a baseball when he was five years old, Cory Waite fell in love with the game.  A self described Cleveland Indians fan “through and through,”  Waite is interested in the game of baseball from all perspectives: as a fan, as a potential future coach, and, most importantly, as a player.
A fifth year senior pitcher for the Yellow Jackets, Waite has experienced just about everything a player could hope for when coming to BW.  As a freshman, he received the most outstanding freshman award.  In addition to that, he is also a two time Ohio Athletic Conference pitcher of the week, and a third time 2014 D3Baseball.com All-Mideast region pitcher.  Waite also holds the Baldwin Wallace University record for most appearances by a pitcher as well.
“Any record is awesome to own, but I think the career appearances record is special to me because it just means that my teammates and coaching staff have faith in me to keep giving me the ball,” Waite said on his record.
Waite is a Dean’s list student carrying a 3.54 grade point average and has earned Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors twice.  He also belongs to the Chi Sigma Alpha honor society and is a Jacket Scholar.
As a redshirt junior, Waite appeared in twenty games, compiling a 7-3 record with a 3.51 earned run average, while also striking out forty-two batters in just over eighty-four innings pitched. He earned second team All-OAC honors, helped BW to win a school record thirty games, and helped the Yellow Jackets advance to their first ever College World Series.
“Winning that regional tournament and being able to hoist that trophy up with my teammates, it was something that I’ll never forget. That postseason run was a really magical time for Baldwin Wallace baseball,” Waite said.
As this chapter of his life closes, an even brighter one may be on its way in.  The accounting and finance major will be graduating in the spring, and in July he starts his career with Ernst and Young.  In addition to that, Waite hopes to continue a life in baseball by coaching baseball-whether it be for kids, high schoolers, or at the college level.
When asked about how he would like to be remembered at Baldwin Wallace and by his teammates and coaches, Waite said “I hope they remember that every time I had the opportunity to pitch (on) that mound I competed at the highest level that I could.”  Waite is sure to be remembered as one of the greatest pitchers to play for Baldwin Wallace.
