Reporter’s Notebook: Student Government & Berea City Council
On Nov. 14, Student Body President Matthew Perry addressed the Student Senate about a meeting with President Bob Helmer. Perry learned that the 10-year plan and the plans for bringing concerts to campus have been put on pause. Perry said the pause on the 10-year plan was due to a desire for further consolidation of resources rather than working on bigger projects. The pause in the concert planning is because the fund for such events had not received a deposit since 2019.
Andrew Merwin, assistant professor of biology and geology, addressed the Senate as the new Faculty Senate liaison. He opened his time by addressing deficit concerns. Merwin said faculty members were concerned about program cuts and that there was discussion about how this would affect first-year and sophomore students. Merwin also informed the Senate that there are new proposed models to the core.
