Baldwin Wallace University’s Collegiate Panhellenic Council, the governing body of the sororities on campus,  has received the Achievement Award from the National Panhellenic Conference.
The Achievement Award is a title granted to College Panhellenic Councils who demonstrate an “excellence” rating in five of the seven categories determined by the NPC. These categories are relevant to Greek Life on a college campus and pertain to community involvement, academic success, and relations to the student body.
Although there was no award ceremony, BW’s Panhellenic Council was “recognized in the National Panhellenic Conference’s publications” as “one of only nineteen universities in the country to have received this distinction.”
Annalise Sinclair, graduate assistant at the Office of Greek Life and BW Panhellenic Council’s advisor, said that the Panhellenic Council “is the governing body that oversees the five National Panhellenic Conference sororities on campus.”
“The President of CPC, Alexis Charara, filled out the award application last May. The application then went on to a panel of judges from the National Panhellenic Conference,” Sinclair said, on how the Panhellenic Council applied for the award.
“I think it is really important to note that the term that the judges were looking at extended over the entire academic year, thus represented the work of two councils,” Sinclair added.
The two councils that were judged by the NPC were the 2012 Council and the 2013 Council. The Panhellenic Council at BW has already set new goals on how to improve their Council.
“I think next year our goal will be to win the Excellence Award from NPC. This award is given to Councils that achieve seven out of seven excellent ratings for all categories listed above. Only fourteen universities in the country were recognized with this award this year and next year, we would like to be one of them,” said Sinclair.
According to the NPC’s website, “The National Panhellenic Conference is the premier advocacy and support organization for the advancement of the sorority experience.”
The NPC oversees 26 organizations and has “more than four million women at 655 college/university campuses and 4,500 local alumnae chapters in the U.S. and Canada.”
Sinclair said, “To join the Executive Council of CPC, one must be a member of one of the five National Panhellenic Conference sororities on campus. They may apply to be on CPC when applications are made available in November and then, there is a process of interviewing, establishing a slate, and chapter voting. The process is complete in December when we have a new full Council.”
