Women’s Basketball
Senior forward Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) scored a game-high 15 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women’s basketball team beat arch-rival Capital University 58-55 in overtime. The game was  the team’s final regular season and Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center.  BW swept the season series from the Crusaders.
BW (19-6, 14-4 OAC) opens OAC Tournament play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24 in the quarter finals at Ursprung Gym when the Yellow Jackets host the winner of  Monday’s first round game. It will be the first game of a women’s and men’s OAC tourney doubleheader. The Yellow Jacket men play at 8 p.m.

Men’s Basketball
Senior guard Justin Roth (Parma) scored 21 points as the Baldwin Wallace University men’s basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 79-71, in an OAC game in the Capital Center.  This was the final regular season game. The 2015 OAC Tournament begins next Tuesday, February 24.
In addition to Roth for BW (18-8, 11-7 OAC), senior All-OAC guard Jaron Crowe (Mentor) scored 16 points and freshman guard Cameron Kuhn (Vermilion) added 15. The Yellow Jackets open OAC Tournament action with a home game on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against a yet to be determined opponent. It will be the nightcap of a women’s and men’s doubleheader in the Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center. The women open play at 6 p.m. against a yet to be determined opponent.
 
Men’s Track and Field
The Baldwin Wallace University men’s Track and Field team were fourth at the 2015 Cleveland Colleges Championship Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center.
The BW men’s team placed fourth of four teams and scored 105.5 points.
The men were led by junior thrower Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/Riverside) who placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 57’ 2.75’’. Burdoff also placed first in shot put with a throw of 48’ 11.50’’. Placing first in the 55-meter dash was Benjamen Beidelman (Washington, D.C. / St. Anselm’s Abbey) in a time of 6.55 seconds. Senior Isaac Baker (Lithia, Fla. / Newsome) placed first in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.12 seconds.

Women’s Track and Field
The Baldwin Wallace University women’s track team finished third at the 2015 Cleveland Colleges Championship Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center.
The Yellow Jacket women finished third of five teams with 89 points.
The women were led by junior Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township / Kenston) in the weight throw, with a throw of 55’  10.50” . Gallavan also placed first in shot put with a throw of 44’ 10.75’’. Sophomore Rachel Holowecky (Amherst / Firelands) placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.41 seconds and placed third in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.39 seconds.

Women’s Volleyball
The Baldwin Wallace University Director of Athletics, Kris A. Diaz (‘78), has hired Scott Carter as the school’s new volleyball coach.  Carter becomes the fifth volleyball coach in BW history.
Carter comes to BW after serving the past three years as the head coach at Hiram College. At Hiram, he posted a 72-25 record and his teams were ranked in the Top-5 of Division III both offensively and defensively. Carter coached 11 All-North Coast Athletic Conference selections, including the 2013 NCAC Freshman of the Year, two Great Lakes All-Region honorees and one American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-American.

Women’s Swimming
Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone) is the OAC 3-Meter Champion and was named OAC Women’s Diver of the Year. The Baldwin Wallace University women’s swimming and diving teams finished fifth at the OAC Championships at the University of Akron.
The Yellow Jackets finished fifth of seven teams with 298 points and were led by Fortune and junior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon).

Junior All-OAC diver Maddie Fortune was named the OAC Women’s Diver of the Year.
Sports Information
Junior All-OAC diver Maddie Fortune was named the OAC Women’s Diver of the Year.

Fortune won the 1-meter diving event with 397.70 points.  She won the 3-meter event on the second day of competition and now is a two-time OAC Champion.  Fortune, who was the runner-up in both diving events a year ago, earned her second All-OAC honor of the championships and the fourth of her career.

Men’s Swimming
The Baldwin Wallace University men’s swimming and diving team set two school records and had two All-Ohio Athletic Conference performers on the final day as it finished sixth at the OAC Championships in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
BW men finished fifth of seven teams with 245 points and were led by freshman Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and senior Bryan Gerber (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) as each set the school-record in the 200-yard breaststroke.  Gerber broke his own record in the prelims and then Thompson reestablished the school-record in the final.
Thompson earned his second All-OAC honor as he placed third in the school-record time of 2:10.87.  He had the fourth fastest qualifying time in a time of 2:11.90. Gerber placed fourth in a time of 2:11.83   He had the second fastest qualifying time in a career-best time of 2:11.00.

Men’s Tennis
The Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team defeated Alma (Mich.) College, 8-1, in a non-conference dual match at the North Ridge Racquet Club.
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches against the Scots (1-2).

Women’s Tennis
The Baldwin Wallace University women’s tennis team dropped a pair of non-conference matches in the final matches before its southern trip.
BW (0-5) opened the day by traveling to nearby Oberlin and was defeated by No. 32 nationally-ranked Oberlin College, 9-0, in the Heisman Field House.
The Yellow Jackets ended the day with a 5-4 loss to Alma (Mich.) College at the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville.
