Women’s T&F places third in first outdoor meet

Prior to the opening of the outdoor season, junior Kelly Brennan earned All-American honors and placed eighth in the 800-meter at the NCAA Division-III Championships on March 9.

The first meet for outdoor Baldwin Wallace University women’s track and field was with a third place finish, out of eight teams, at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) Early Bird at the William Welch Complex.

In the field events, the Yellow Jackets claimed two wins by junior thrower Brooke Buckhannon and senior Jumper Jessica Edwards.

Buckhannon had a throw of 151 feet, 5 inches in the hammer throw, and Edwards with a career-best jump of 33 feet, 4.5 inches in the triple jump. Freshmen thrower Alexzandria Strawbridge, in her first ever meet, placed second in the javelin throw with a heave of 103 feet, 6 inches.

On the track, the Yellow Jackets racked up three more wins. Amanda Milo won the 100 and 400-meter hurdles in times of 14.98 and 1:07.03. Also, in third of the 400-meter hurdles was freshmen Heather Guiley with a time of 1:13.92. The other victory was junior Bella Pendola in the 5,000-meter run where she finished in a time of 17:56.44. A little behind Pendola was sophomore Madison Kile, who finished runner-up with a career-best time of 18:00.65.

Freshmen Alexa Smith placed second in the steeplechase with 13:01.49, right behind her was junior Jordan Dascani in third at 13:14.66.

In the 100-meter dash, freshmen Nina Curry placed second in 13.22 seconds. In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Ky’leana Allen ran her best time yet at 1:03.29 to get third place.

In relay action, junior Claire Makowski, Kile, sophmore Molina Otte and Smith had a runner-up performance in the 4×400 meter relay in a time of 4:45.39.

Next up for the Jackets was the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational hosted by Muskingum University. The Lady’s ended in fifth place of 14 teams.

On the Track, sophomore Megan Vaughn ran the 10,000-meter run with a big career-best time of 42:13.33 for first place. Her teammate, freshmen Jenna Daulbaugh, got second in 42:37.87. In the hurdles, Milo secured a win in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.22.

As for the 1,500 meter-run it was Pendola leading the way in second with a time of 4:50.79, freshmen Alyssa Laughner in third in a time of 5:06.75, Kile who placed fifth in 5:00.61 and lastly junior Katie Fowler for eighth place in 5:06.75. Pendola was also able to bring home a career-best time in the 800-meter run for third place at 2:24.24.

The 4×400 relay team of Fowler, freshmen Natalie Vinci, Pendola and Kile took third with 4:18.13.

In the field,, it was Edwards placing third in the triple-jump with a hop of 33 feet, 1.25 inches. Also, Buckhannon had a fourth place finish in the discus with a toss of 118 feet, 4 inches and another fourth place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 143 feet, 9 inches.

The Lady Jackets will be back in action when they travel to Otterbein University to participate in the April Fools Invitational on March 30.
