Senior three-time All-OAC Rachel Bender scored goals in both the first and second half against Waynesburg

Over the last week, Baldwin Wallace University women’s soccer has seen a lot of success, recording an overall record of 6-2-1.

Last week, they faced Frostburg State (Md.), Hiram College, Waynesburg University (Pa.) and Grove City College. BW came out on top in three out of the four games, with their only loss coming in their contest with Grove City.

BW women’s soccer fell behind against Hiram at first with a three-goal deficit but showed great resiliency, said head coach Jim Wojtkun.

The game was sent into overtime when the Jackets fought back to tie with a penalty kick by sophomore Kayla Webb.

With 2 minutes left in the second overtime, the Jackets scored after a header from sophomore defender Morgan Gray found the back of the net off a corner kick by junior midfielder Kenna Poptic.

On Saturday the 22, BW went up against Waynesburg in a physical battle.

“We were fortunate to score early and that opened up play a bit,” said Wojtkun.

Senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference Rachel Bender scored goals both in the first and second half, while Waynesburg kept the pressure high throughout the course of the game. Junior Claire Cuthbertson scored the third goal of the game, and again 2 minutes later from a pass from freshman Margaux Duvall.

The game ended in a 4-0 Baldwin Wallace win.

BW heads into conference play on Saturday, September 29 when they go up against Capital University. They will then travel to Ohio Northern on Wednesday, October 3 and will finish off the week with a matchup with Otterbein on Saturday, October 6.
