The Baldwin Wallace University Women’s Lacrosse team opened up their 2018 season under a new head coach.

Nicholle St. Pierre is now leading a fairly young Yellow Jackets squad through a tough non-conference and Ohio- Athletic Conference schedule. The team has posted a record of 2-4 so far.

In the first game of the season, the Jackets found themselves in a high scoring affair with Oberlin College. Senior attack Caitlin Wheeler tallied six goals in the matchup and junior midfielder Megan Patrick contributed three goals and a team-leading four groundballs. The final from Oberlin was 19-11.

The team made a trip out west to play three non-conference battles against teams from Oregon. In those three games, the Jackets outscored their opponents 56-34. In the first game of the trip against Pacfic (Ore.), the Jackets brought home a convincing 19-3 win.

Sophomore midfielder Savanna Jaekle led the way with a career-high five goals and sophomore midfielder Hannah Stein led the team with five draw controls. Freshmen Christina Roskoph also tallied her first three goals of her career.

In the second game of their trip, the team found themselves in a high scoring affair against George Fox (Ore.), but ended up coming up short, 19- 15. They left the west coast a victorious as they finished off their trip with a season-high 22 goals in a win against Linfield (Ore.).

The Jackets dropped their home opener to a talented Allegheny (Pa.) team, 20-15. In the game, senior attack Caitlin Wheeler found the back of the net five times, as she is approaching 100 goals for her career.

On March 17, the Jackets took on Kenyon College inside George Finnie Stadium and couldn’t get their offense rolling, as they dropped the game 18-8. The Jackets stepped up their defense in the second half, only allowing six goals. In the game, freshmen goalkeeper Asleigh Hildreth registered 12 saves.

Although the first six games may not have gone they way the team expected, senior defender Lauryn Wright said they have been “working some kinks out so far this season, and we are happy with our progress.” As the season goes on, they are “really excited to see what we can do as a team”.
