Woman’s Tennis ends brief Fall season

The Baldwin Wallace University women’s tennis squad competed in the Nancy and Harvey Heath Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College (Pa.) this past weekend.

In the Yellow Jackets’ first match against Allegheny, they lost a close contest, 5-4. In singles, sophomore Ashtyn Morris and senior Kathleen Moser took victories by winning 6 to 2 and 6 to 0, respectively.

In doubles, Morris paired with Senior Imani Robinson, who was an All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection a year ago, to secure an 8-4 victory. Conversely, Moser paired with sophomore Becca Lieber to take an identical 8-4 victory.

In their second match against Grove City, Morris was the only member of the team to get a victory, winning 6 to 3 and 6 to 4 in her singles matches.

The pair of Morris and Moser were unable to come away victorious in doubles play. Similarly, Robinson paired with Liebler and lost 8-5. The match concluded with an 8-1 Grove City victory.

Despite failing to come away with a win, Coach Dean Morris had only positive comments after the games. “I was extremely pleased with how the team played last weekend,” said Morris.

“We had a chance on winning our first match against Allegheny college but fell short in a 5-4 loss. Our second match against Grove City, we were a little tired since we were short-handed for both matches. Ashtyn Morris had a great start to the season, winning both of her matches at second singles against some pretty good competition. I am very excited for the spring season when we have a full team. I have high expectations for the team now that I know how they play in competitive matches.”

The women’s tennis next match will be February 9 against Oberlin College at home as this marked the end of their fall season.
