PASS program expands efforts to help students be successful

The Positive Action for Student Success (PASS) program is not a new program on campus, however, in support of Academic Affairs the programs efforts in expanding is underway.
Members of the PASS committee met last semester in hopes of demonstrating more collaborative effort, and participation by students and faculty.
New this semester, the committee decided to introduce PASS Ambassadors compiled of a handful of students who attend Baldwin Wallace.
The idea behind this is to encourage more students to participate in various workshops that the PASS program offers.
PASS Ambassadors will distribute and promote learning material about the PASS program’s workshops and events. This may include: brief presentations in class, tabling in the Union, and email blasts sent to student accounts.
These workshops include resources for Academic and Career Planning, and Financial and Wellness Advising.
Katie Flannigan, career advisor at Career Services, recommends as students dive into the second semester “It’s important to take advantage of any opportunities as a student that allow you to thrive.”
Furthermore, the workshops allow students to explore their options within different majors and career paths, receive beneficial information and tips regarding filling out FASFA (financial aid) and getting help with academic-focused research papers.
The PASS program is not only intended for First-year students, but anyone who needs guidance, or is seeking academic, career, financial, and wellness resources.
The PASS program is also effectively collaborating with the efforts between the Office of Academic Affairs and Career Services. This allows for a varying, and wider selection of resources that the PASS program can offer and advertise.
The program’s workshops and information can be accessed by students on the MyBW portal where students are able to view times, locations, and registration for each program that PASS offers during each semester.
This spring semester some workshops that are being held include: “Reading Research,” “Exploring Majors and Careers,” and the “Health Fair”.
Students can view more schedule and registration information by going to my.bw.edu/pass.
It is encouraged for students to take advantage of the PASS program workshops; these workshops are free and offered on campus.
As midterms are also soon approaching the bend, it is encouraged for students to ask for help early on in order to promote success in all (academic, career, financial, and wellness) areas, therefore, the PASS program is a good way to start.
“PASS is meant to help students on all fronts to reach success,” said Katie Flanigan. It is her third semester working in a group effort to better the PASS program and connect with students of varying backgrounds.
Overall, it is encouraged for not only students, but faculty to help promote the PASS program, as it may be a single step to better student success and to become a better student.
