The No. 22 Nationally-ranked Yellow Jacket Men’s Basketball team started the season off strong. After winning the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament last year, the team began with two wins before dropping their third game of the season to unranked Westminster College.

After their two victories, BW fell to Westminster 78-68 in Wilmington, PA. The Yellow Jackets had three players scoring in the double digits as Junior guard Luke Schaefer led the team with 15 points and nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Westminster’s Isaac Stamatiades whose double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds lead both teams in each category.

On Tuesday night, Nov. 12 the Yellow Jackets first matchup against non-conference opponent Bethany College was a blowout at home, ending with a final score of 95-53. The men had three players scoring in double figures. Schaefer had a game-high tying 15 points. Senior forward Tyler Colombo drained 13 points and tallied six rebounds. Senior forward Alex Nahra contributed 10 huge points off the bench.

The following Friday night, Nov. 15 the Yellow Jacket community honored dear friend, teammate and student coach Josh Herron. Josh fought cancer for six years before it took his life. His fight was strong, fierce, and exceptionally brave. The Yellow Jackets pulled out a win defeating Hiram College 81-71. The men had four players scoring in double figures. All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Michael Quiring had a dominating 15 points. Senior forward Tyler Colombo contributed 12 points and four rebounds. Senior forwards Drew Sova and Alex Nahra both drained 10 points. This win meant more for the team and family of Josh because it was in his honor.

Next up, the men will be traveling to New York for a non-conference match up against Hobart College on Friday, November 22nd. The team is back in Berea for the first Ohio Athletic Conference game day against Marietta College on Tuesday, November 26th.
