Missouri trip closes out men’s tennis season

The Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team finished their fall season this past weekend in St. Louis Missouri at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region tournament. Junior ITA Scholar Athlete Jake Elbin sealed a win in the UTR-D bracket. He finished the day with four wins, achieving a victory in his last match with sets finishing 7-5, 4-6, and 1-0. Following Elbin’s success was freshman Miles Collins, who won the UTR-D consolation bracket with three wins and a bye. In addition to Collins, sophomore Michael Benotti finished his weekend with a solid 1-1 showing. 

Two-time Academic All- Ohio Athletic Conference, two-time All-OAC and two-time ITA Scholar Athlete Dominic Polifrone came away victorious in his first match of the tournament.  However, he fell to his opponent in the next match, ending his weekend with a 1-1 record in singles. Senior Roger Boyer, an Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference and ITA Scholar Athlete, got his win in the UTR-D when he defeated Ben Echikson of Oberlin. Lastly, Baldwin Wallace’s doubles pairing of Polifrone and two-time All-OAC performer and ITA Scholar Athlete Matt Harris lost in their first match, 8-6. BW men’s tennis team will return for the spring portion of their schedule on Feb.10, when the play Penn St. Behrend at 5 p.m.
