Men’s track places third at ‘Wide Track’ event

The Baldwin Wallace University men’s track and field team took action on Feb. 1-2 at the Hillsdale “Wide Track” open, hosted by Hillsdale College. The Yellow Jackets finished 3rd of 20 schools, which included multiple Division II universities.

In the field events, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Zac Dysert placed third in the weight throw with 60 feet and 3 inches, while sophomore Alex Dempsey placed fifth in the long jump with 21 feet and 7.5 inches.

In the distance events, sophomore runners Andrew Krupp and Spencer Roberts finished first and second, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run.

Krupp, who came out on top, had a time of 15:58.49 and Roberts crossed the finish line just after him at 16:05.42. Meanwhile, senior runner Spencer Mahon had a second-place finish in the 3,000- meter run in a time of 9:14.61.

To finish out day one, junior hurdler Robby Becker made it out of the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries after finishing with a time of 9.06 and earned an eighth place in with a time of 9.25 in the finals.

On day two of the meet the distance runners came out hot. In the 1,600-meter run, the Yellow Jackets had five top-10 finishers. Roberts placed third with a career-best time of 4:42.00.

Junior Isaac Wilson placed fourth in 4:42.22 and freshmen Joe Juda was in fifth at 4:42.60. To finish it off, it was Mahon in sixth at 4:43.11 and Krupp in seventh at 4:43.14.

Also on Day Two, David Prather had a career-best time of 2:01.26 in the 800-meter run, while Josh Hickmott finished second in the 1,600-meter championship round with a time of 4:29.95.

In relay action, the team of Brandon Cole, Nate Matthews, Drew Kopchak and Prather placed eighth in the 4×400 meter relay in a time of 4:29.95.

The Yellow Jackets were right back into the action the following weekend when they hosted a Mid-February meet in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse. The men finished eighth out of nine teams.

In the field events, senior thrower Milton Woods finished seventh in his very first shot put event with a throw of 41 feet and 8.5 inches.

In the distance events, Krupp posted a career-best time in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:08.66 to finish third.

Sophomore Spencer Roberts, sophomore Jose Reynoso and senior Spencer Mahon were right behind each other for fifth through seventh place in the 3,000 meter-run as well.

Roberts crossed the finish line in fifth-place with a time of 9:11.80, Reynoso in sixth in 9:13.41 and Mahon earned a seventh-place finish at a time of 9:13.6

In the shorter events, Cole competed in the 400-meter dash and ran a time of 53.89 for a fourth-place finish. Freshmen Joe Juda also placed fourth in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:45.65. Lastly, freshmen sprinter Drew Kopchak rounded out the Yellow Jackets finishers as he took fifth in the 55-meter dash finals with career-best time of 6.81.
