Men’s T&F finishes fifth at Taraschke

On Jan. 26, the Baldwin Wallace University men’s indoor track and field teams hosted the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge inside the Lou Higgins Recreational Center at Dillard Track.

The men finished fifth of six total teams.

A pair of freshmen had notable performances on the track for the Yellow Jackets. In the 400-meter dash, Nate Matthews took third in a time of 51.76 and David Prather had a time of 2:03.23 in the 800-meter run for fifth-place finish.

In addition, sophomore All-OAC distance runner Josh Hickmott finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:42.18.

In the shorter running events the top finishers were junior hurdler Robby Becker and freshman Garrett Fess. Becker finished fifth after registering a career-best time of 8.07 in the 55-meter hurdles, while Fess finished seventh in a time of 8.16 in that same event.

In the field events, senior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert put on a great showing in the weight throw with a first place finish after a toss of 59 feet, 9.5 inches.

Also in that same event, All-OAC thrower junior Ted Achladis placed fifth with a throw 51 feet, 11 inches. In the shot put, Achladis finished second with a toss of 48’ 10” while Dysert got third with a throw of 48’1.25″.

Notable performances in the high jump by sophomore Alex Dempsey and freshmen Garrett Fess carried BW. Dempsey jumped 5’10.75″ for third while Fess cleared 5’8.75″ for fourth place.

Lastly, the 4×400 meter relay team of senior sprinter Brandon Cole, freshman distance runner Joe Juda, Matthews and Fess ran for a time of 3:38.43, good for a third place finish.

The track team will compete next at an event hosted by Division II Hillsdale College located in Hillsdale, Mich. for a total of two days.

The event is called the Wide Track open and will be on Friday and Saturday, Feb 1-2 inside of the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.
