Men’s tennis heads into OAC play 9-1

The Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team is off to a dominant start this season. They began by winning eight straight before falling to Lynchburg Virginia in a close 6-3 match.

However, they were able to rebound by defeating St. Johns Fisher, giving BW a 9-1 record. The Yellow Jackets have had multiple shut outs, beating three schools 9-0, all of which occurred during their win streak.

The team will resume play March 30 by playing Mount Union at home. Following that, they will play against John Carroll April 3, at John Carroll.

The Yellow Jackets will be looking for pay back from last season, when Mount Union knocked them out of the OAC tournament semifinals. This will be BW’s first OAC match of the season.

In recent years, BW has been stellar in OAC play, finishing second in the OAC three
times in the past four years and finishing first in 2012.

When asked what has been key to the teams hot start, junior Ben Binion said, “We’ve spent a lot of time in practice working on doubles…Being able to get out to an early lead in our matches gives everyone confidence going into singles.”

All of the doubles teams currently hold winning records. Junior Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and All- OAC doubles team of Matt Harris and Dominic Polifrone look to continue their success going into their upcoming match. They are currently on a six game win streak and have an 11-5 record.

BW has had success in singles as well and look to continue their dominance. Freshman Michael Benotti is on a great roll as of late, winning 10 straight and currently holding a 12-1 record.
