LSAT/GRE prep set for Feb. 15

Baldwin Wallace University will be offering an LSAT/GRE test preparation workshop on February 15, 2020 for aspiring law and graduate students.

The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will offer prospective students useful skills, such as preparing their applications, preparing for the test itself, and networking with a lunch provided. Grad school counselors, as well as BW alumni, will also be in attendance, offering their support.

This is the first year the workshop is being offered.

“It’s really important that students know what they’re getting into when they’re applying for law school,” said Barbara Palmer, a political science professor at BW.

“It’s a really stressful process. It takes way longer than people think, and it’s expensive.”

The cheapest tests themselves can run between $400 and $600. Each workshop is limited to only twenty seats based on the intense experience, said Palmer.

The main goal, she says, is helping students to succeed after graduation. Megan Garriga, a Developmental Reading director of academic affairs as well as Reading and Writing Specialist, says that the workshops are also trying to help make the experience easier for students overall.

“If students need to retake the LSAT or GRE, or if they need to research more about the scores they need, they’ll have time to really think through their decisions,” said Palmer.

Luckily, LSAT and GRE tests can be taken more than once, similar to the SAT or ACT tests.

In a study done by the BW Law School Admissions Council from 2013 to 2017, it was determined that the average law school acceptance rate for BW seniors was 86%, with the average LSAT score being 153 out of a national average of 150. The most frequently attended law schools include Cleveland State University, the University of Akron, the American University in Washington, DC, Capitol University, and Ohio State University
