Josiah Greve Leads Yellow Jackets by Example

Athletes at the collegiate level strive to be the best. A goal of many is to be one of the best in the conference and achieve All-Conference status. The Baldwin Wallace Men’s Lacrosse Team has a player who has accomplished this feat three times already. This player is defender Josiah Greve, the three-time First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) and OAC Defensive Player of the Year, senior captain of the Yellow Jackets.

Greve grew up in Milford, Ohio and played lacrosse and basketball at Milford High School. Josiah got into lacrosse after his brother taught him the game.

The beginning was rough, as it is for most athletes, but Greve persevered, “When I started, like everyone else, I was terrible and I actually didn’t like the sport and wanted to quit. Then I just practiced every day doing wall-ball. After a while I got pretty decent…” Pretty decent is an understatement though, as he was a two-time All-Ohio selection in high school and even won Club Division Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.

Greve has continued to improve at the college level, as he has led the Yellow Jackets in caused turnovers the past three seasons with 32, 30, and 47. Greve also has a nose for scooping up ground balls, with 37, 42, and 64 in his three seasons. He was a key defender on the number one scoring defense in all of division three. Josiah looks to continue to improve, saying “with the sport there is no ceiling, and I want to see how good I can make myself.”

Greve’s work ethic and determination go a long way with his teammates as he sets an example for others to follow. On being elected captain for the third straight season, Greve said, “It’s a pretty cool honor. It shows the kids on my team respect me not only as a player but as someone they trust to do what needs to be done on and off the field. Someone they respect enough to put me in a position where I can help lead them to the ultimate goal as a team and program.”

Sophomore defender Brian Jandzinski also notes that “Josiah is one of those players that every teammate wants to have… His leadership on and off the field does not go unnoticed…”
Additionally, Yellow Jackets head lacrosse coach Jason Tarnow remarked on Greve’s leadership saying “Josiah is a quiet leader who wears his passion on his sleeve. His character can never be questioned.”

Not only is Josiah Greve a hard worker on the lacrosse field, but he is in the classroom as well. Josiah, a Digital Media and Interactive Design major with a Computer Science and Software Engineering double minor carries a 3.52 GPA putting him on the Dean’s List, Academic All-OAC, and making him a Jacket Scholar. Greve said that the combination of school and athletics is all about time management and believing that school comes first.
