Football

On Saturday, Oct. 12, senior multi-purpose threat Josiah Holt ran for three touchdowns as the Baldwin Wallace University football team beat visiting Ohio Northern University, 38-17, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Tressel Field at George Finnie Stadium before 5,155 Homecoming fans.
For his efforts, Holt earned the Frank Roppolo Homecoming Player of the Game award. He totaled 234 all-purpose yards as he gained 184 yards in 15 rushing attempts with three TDs and caught three passes for 50 yards.
The game was tied 7-7 after one quarter, BW led 19-7 at halftime and 31-10 after three quarters. The Yellow Jackets out-gained the Polar Bears, 478 yards to 405 yards, including 309-88 on the ground.
In addition to Holt, the BW was led on offense by junior quarterbacks Michael Slack and Kyle Ohradzansky. Slack completed 6-of-10 passes for 140 yards with a TD and two interceptions. He gained 24 yards in nine rushing attempts. Ohradzansky completed 3-of-7 passes for 29 yards and ran three times for three yards.
Additionally, senior wide receiver Kevin Johnson caught three passes for a team-high 103 yards, including an 80-yard TD grab. Senior linebacker David Flegal, who recorded a game-high 14 tackles, led the defense. Senior safety Zack Barley had 11 tackles.
Offensively for the Polar Bears junior QB Patrick Angle completed 28-of-47 passes for 317 yards. The top receiver was freshman Devon Price with a game-high 10 catches for 143 yards. Sophomore RB Justin Magazine led the running game with 38 yards in 10 attempts with a TD. Senior LB Josh Cantrell led the defense with 13 tackles.
On Saturday, Oct. 19, Holt and sophomore running back Issac Reed III each scored a pair of touchdowns as the BW defeated Wilmington College, 54-7, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at Williams Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The Wilmington Quakers (0-6, 0-5 OAC) took an early 7-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 3-2 OAC) scored 54 unanswered points.  BW led 19-7 after one quarter, 26-7 at halftime and 48-7 after three quarters. The Jackets out-gained Wilmington in total offense, 385 yards to 220 yards, including 287 yards on the ground.
BW was led on offense by Holt with 81 yards rushing on nine carries and the two scores, while Reed rushed for a season-best 76 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.   Slack completed 4-of-7 passes for 70 yards and had two touchdowns (one rushing). Ohradzansky also completed four of five passes for 28 yards.  Johnson caught three passes for 52 yards, including a one-handed 43-yard touchdown reception.
Senior defensive lineman Addison Carbone recorded five tackles and led the Yellow Jacket defense that forced one fumble, had one interception and had four sacks.
Offensively senior quarterback Brandon Arehart led the Quakers as he completed 17-of-36 passes for 169 yards with a TD and an interception.
Tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 26, BW hosts OAC-rival Capital University on Professor Appreciation Day at 1:30 p.m.

Women’s Soccer

The Baldwin Wallace University women’s soccer team lost to host Ohio Northern University, 3-0, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Kerscher Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Ohio Northern opened the scoring in the 58th minute when senior forward Sami Atkinson scored on a header with the cross coming from junior forward Kristina Klusek. In the 69th minute Klusek scored the second goal of the game for the Polar Bears with the assist from freshman midfielder Alaura Mikesell. Senior midfielder Lauren Brown scored a goal in the 79th minute to give Ohio Northern a 3-0 advantage.
In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore Emily Tallmadge faced 14 shots, seven shots on goal, allowed three goals and made four saves.
The Polar Bears outshot BW by a 14-7 count and also had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Kayla Losco scored the game’s only goal as the BW defeated Heidelberg University, 1-0, in an OAC match at Mayer Field.
BW opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Losco scored her second goal of the season off a corner kick that deflected off the Heidelberg goalie.
In goal for the Yellow Jackets, Tallmadge faced four shots, none of which were on goal, did not allow a goal and made no saves for her fourth shutout of the season. Tallmadge improved to 10-2 overall.
BW outshot the Student Princes by a 19-4 count and also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Yellow Jackets defeated visiting Wilmington College, 3-1, on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on Tressel Field.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in the OAC. With its loss, the Quakers fell to 9-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.
BW opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Losco nailed a free kick into the upper right hand corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Losco’s third this season and 10th of her career.
The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 advantage in the 39th minute when freshman defender Kelly Gough scored the second goal of her career when she put the ball past the Quaker goalie and into the upper middle portion of the net. Senior All-OAC forward Heather Keller assisted Gough. It was Keller’s fourth assist this season and the 12th of her career.
BW increased its lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute when former high school teammates, senior All-OAC forward Hanna Cavalier and senior All-OAC midfielder Rachel Gokey, combined for a goal. Cavalier scored her fifth goal of the season and the ninth of her career via Gokey’s second assist this fall and the 11th of her career.
The Quakers finally got on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute and made the score 3-1 when senior forward Paj Shelton scored her second goal of the season via an assist from sophomore forward Rachel Bowen.
In goal for the Yellow Jackets, Tallmadge faced eight shots, allowed one goal and made three saves as she improved to 11-2 overall.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Quakers by a 12-8 count and also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The next home match is on Wednesday, Oct. 30 when the Yellow Jackets host the University of Mount Union in Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.

Men’s Soccer

Senior defender Ashkon Bahrami scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute as the Baldwin Wallace University men’s soccer team defeats host Heidelberg University, 2-1, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Mayer Field on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
BW opened the scoring in the 19th minute when junior midfielder Michael Brennan scored off of an assist from senior forward Andrew Preis. It was the team-leading sixth goal of the season for Brennan and the second assist for Preis.
Heidelberg answered back in the 27th minute when Christopher Koczak headed the rebound shout off crossbar into the net to even the score at 1-1.
Bahrami scored the game-winner off a deflection in the 85th minute to give BW the victory.
In goal for the Yellow Jackets, senior Tyler Beaton faced 21 shots, four shots on goal, allowed one goal and made three saves and improved to 5-6-2.
The Student Princes outshot BW by a 21-11 count but the Yellow Jackets had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
On Saturday, Oct. 19, three separate players scored goals and junior goalie Tyler Beaton had his third shutout this season as BW defeated visiting Wilmington College, 3-0, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on Tressel Field. This was the nightcap of a women and men’s doubleheader.
With its win, the Yellow Jackets improved 6-7-3 overall and 4-1 in the OAC. With its loss, the Quakers fell 5-10-1 overall and 2-3 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Preis scored his second goal this season and the third of his career after he received a pass from former high school teammate and current BW junior midfielder Mike Womack. Preis beat the Wilmington goalie to the ball and slid it by him into the lower left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
BW extended its lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute when Bahrami scored his third goal of the season with an assist from sophomore forward Zach Smith. Bahrami received a header from Smith and volleyed the ball into the upper right corner of the net. Smith’s header assist was the third in Smith’s career.
The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 3-0 in the 52nd minute when junior forward Cody Smith received a loose ball in the Quaker end of the field and one-touched it home for his second goal this season and the fourth of his career.
In goal for BW, Beaton faced 15 shots, did not allow a goal and made three saves as his record improved to 6-6-2 this season with three shutouts.
The Quakers outshot the Yellow Jackets by a 15-14 count, but BW won the corner kick battle, 5-4.
The next home match is on Tuesday, Oct. 29 when the Yellow Jackets host the University of Mount Union in Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.

Volleyball

The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeated Wilmington College, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 19, in an OAC match in Fred Razik Arena.  The victory ended a three-match losing streak.
