Freshmen help drive Wrestling wins

Baldwin Wallace University’s wrestling team finished up this past weekend at Trine University in Angola, Indiana, followed up with a road trip this past Tuesday to Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

During the men’s time at Trine University, the younger men of the squad stepped up and got some new experience on the mats. Freshman, Doug Byrne left his mark at Trine this weekend, placing second with a team high of 21-points. Doug is in the 197-pound class and is from Wickliffe, Ohio.

The men finished up in Ada with a 28-6 OAC victory over ONU. Some younger team members stepped up again this past Tuesday to help the Jackets secure the win.  Jack Stanley started the night off with a quick pin, and another freshman—Luke Salmon also contributed greatly to the night. Lastly, the underclassmen to close off the night was Jarod Miller—who sealed the victory by claiming the final bout with a 6-3 decision.

The underclassmen are stepping up and will try and continue to prove themselves over the next few weeks, as their presence has been very impactful thus far.

The BW invitational is coming up next this weekend, on Saturday Nov. 23 at 10:00 AM in the Lou Higgins Field House, where several other teams will come to Berea to compete against the Jackets. Players to look out for this season thus far is Doug Byrne, Andrew Levis, Jarod Miller, Stanley Bleich, and many more as the season progresses.
