Baldwin Wallace University’s women’s golf team kicked off their fall 2019 season on Sunday, September 1st at home for the BW Fall Invitational. They finished the tournament second of the three teams that attended. Afterwards, BW went on to travel to Alliance, Ohio for the Mount Union Fall Invitational the following Sunday, the John Carroll Fall Invitational on September 15, and lastly they competed in the Allegheny Fall Invitational on September 22.

Head Coach Andrew Edgar provided some great insight on the team’s endeavors over the first month of the team’s season so far. Edgar said that many of the players have matched or bettered their career bests thus far. In addition to the hard work and improvement, Edgar also said that two players, in particular, have stood out in the early part of the season. Anna Schatschneider and Emily Hunt are both seniors this year and have been very consistent in their play and have provided stability in their overall team scores. Schatschneider garnered overall medalist honors at the Mount Union Invitational and Coach Edgar sees her continuing to put herself in that position for upcoming tournaments this season. Hunt, a team captain, is off to a great start as well and figured into the team scoring at every event, said Coach Edgar. Edgar said, “I’m expecting her to have a breakout senior season.”

BW has had some key experiences thus far as a team, one of those experiences being the BW Fall Invitational, said Coach Edgar. Edgar explained that BW ended up quite a few strokes behind Mount Union, one of the top teams in the conference after the first day…BW came out strong the following day, played very well, and came out on top with a shooting score that the team has not achieved for some time. Edgar said, “I think it generated a lot of optimism and confidence moving forward knowing that we can compete with the top teams in our conference. That mentality is one that we are seeking to carry with us throughout the season and put ourselves in a position to finish as a top tier OAC team.”

A weekend to highlight for the BW women’s golf team was at The Mount Union Invitational. BW built on their success of the first tournament when they arrived in Alliance on the 8th. Out of 9 schools, BW finished 4th overall and only a few strokes behind Mount Union. Edgar said Schatschneider won overall medalist and there were a few other career bests that generated excitement about what the team is capable of doing. Edgar said, “It was fun to see them really enjoying the moment and supporting each other.”

Looking on to the rest of the 2019 season, Coach Edgar says he would like to see this group keep playing with more consistency over two tournament days. Edgar said that they have, “put together one good day on a number of occasions but they know it takes more than that to be where we want to be if we’re going to consider ourselves a top-tier OAC team.” Edgar says this group has been outstanding to work with and they all do an amazing job caring about each other. He also gave a shout out his captains, Hannah Durst (senior) and Emily Hunt (senior) for being amazing leaders and helping make the season an overall great experience. The team knows what they are capable of from a competitive golf standpoint and Coach Edgar said he is eager to see them all push each other further to achieve the individual and team goals that have been set.

The Jackets are back on the road again to West Lafayette, Ohio to compete at the OAC Fall Preview on September 28th.
