This public lecture will be sponsored by the Institute for Sustainable Business Practices (ISBP) and will focus on global freshwater scarcity and the need for effective water conservation strategies.
In his presentation, Piñero will address the effect of water scarcity on businesses, specifically in the agriculture, manufacturing and energy industries, presenting on why this issue is important and how companies can incorporate long-term and short-term strategies and practices into their conservation efforts.

Piñero currently serves as the Veolia Water’s North American liaison to the global public affairs team.
Dr. David Krueger, director of the ISBP and co-director of B-W’s sustainability major, asked Piñero to visit because of a referral from a corporate advisory council member of the institute.
“Water will be a huge issue affecting all of us in the 21st century,” Krueger said.
“As water becomes more expensive in the future, we will all want to find ways to use less of it to manage our costs of living.”
Krueger added that this lecture is especially relevant to sustainability majors, science students and anyone with an interest in the health of the planet.
Registration for this event is free to ISBP corporate sponsors and BW students, faculty and staff.
The registration cost is $20 for all other attendants.
The lecture will be held Thursday, September 25, from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in Sandstone 3 of Strosacker Hall. A “meet and greet” reception will immediately follow the presentation in the atrium of the Center for Innovation and Growth.
This event will be co-sponsored by The City of Cleveland’s Office of Sustainability, The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Cleveland Water Alliance, and Haley & Aldrich.
