Brennan, Buckhannon drive women’s track

The Yellow Jackets have had a busy past two weeks, with two meets, the Ohio Athletic Conference North split meet and the Dr. William Taraschke Classic.

At the Ohio Athletic Conference split on Jan. 19, BW finished third at the meet out of five teams, compiling a total of 121 points. Mount Union finished in first place with a total of 202.5 points.

Two key performers for the Yellow Jackets were junior distance-runner Kelly Brennan and sophomore thrower Brooke Buckhannon.

Brennan, who earned OAC track athlete of the week for her performance, placed first in both the 1-mile race and the 3,000 meters while Buckhannon won all throwing events with personal bests in the shot put and the weight throw.

The team followed a well put-together performance in the OAC North split meet with a stellar performance in the Dr. William Taraschke Classic on Jan. 26.

The Yellow Jackets finished in first place at the meet out of the participating three teams with 132 points, 42 points more than the second place team, Washington and Jefferson College.

The Yellow Jackets were led by many first-place finishers with Jillian Roberts in the shot put, Brooke Buckhannon in the weight throw, Abby Lewicki in the pole vault, Jessica Edwards in the triple jump, Kelly Brennan in the 800-meter run, Hastings Marek in the 1-mile run, Katie Fowler in the 1,000-meter run, Molina Otte in the 3,000-meter run, and Grace Nemeth in the 200-meter dash.

The 4×400 team of Kelly Brennan, Katie Fowler, Rebecca Penrose, and Madison Kile also took first place.

The women’s track and field team will travel to Michigan on Feb. 2nd to participate in the Hillsdale “Wide Tack” Classic.
