Brooke Balamenti, a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, has published the sequel to her book “The Mind Field,” marking her second book published this year. The book “Under the Same Stars” is now available to purchase on Amazon.
“It feels so magical… a little over a year ago, publishing wasn’t even on my radar. To put out two stories I’m really proud of in one year is a total dream come true,” Balamenti said.
Balamenti wrote this book during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a great impact on her story.
“I didn’t even realize it as I wrote, but looking back, it’s clear that the themes of isolation, community and being comfortable on your own are all inspired by how I navigated that time,” Balamenti said.
Her book dives into the depths of her characters’ minds, as well as darker themes than the first book. The plot begs the question of how to remain hopeful when seeing horrifying outcomes of what is to happen in the future.
One of her favorite parts of her sequel are the holiday scenes, and the book opening up into a second point of view.
Balamenti’s biggest takeaway from being a twice-published author is discovering that writing is what she wants to do with her life, as she is excited to see people interacting with her books through annotated copies.
“Every single person who has reached out about my book has just cemented even further my love for writing and my hope to continue to put out stories that impact the lives of others,” Balamenti said.
Balamenti’s advice to other aspiring authors is to be mindful and not rush. Balamenti spent a few years looking into traditional publishing and self-publishing, both of which she said have their pros and cons writers should make themselves aware of.
Another piece of advice she gives is to not be afraid to publish your work.
“Your book might not change the world,” Balamenti said. “But it might change someone’s, and that should be enough.”
Stay tuned for the announcement of the third book in Balamenti’s trilogy, as well as future standalone projects.
