The Commuter Activity Board hosts a variety of events every year for students on campus, and this fall semester is no different.
The Department of Commuter Services has put together activities for the fall semester in hopes to de-stress students in preparation for upcoming midterms. Under Terrance Duffy, a CAB member, there will be events at Coe Lake, the Cleveland Zoo, and even a planned commuter appreciation week held the week of Halloween.
The Berea Harvest Festival, for example, was held at Coe Lake on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This was part of the CAB’s mission to “create welcoming events and a sense of belonging on campus for commuter students,” per Duffy.
The CAB is also hosting a “Boo at the Zoo” event on Oct. 18 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. as a celebration for the end of midterms. Duffy said this will be a fun event for commuters to hang out and enjoy all the fall festivities the zoo has to offer. Tickets are being sold in the Union for $5, cash only.
For those who enjoy a good scare, CAB will also be collaborating with Residence Life and Housing to host a haunted house event on the night of Oct. 26 in the basement of Davidson Hall and Davidson Pavilion. Commuters and residents alike are invited to mix and mingle with each other and enjoy the spooky event.
Later in the month, commuter appreciation week will take place during Halloween, Oct. 28-31, and will offer different events at varying locations. Duffy says to look out for more upcoming information about these events.
As always, commuter students should also know that the commuter lounge is always open for the needs and wants of commuters, offering free hygiene products, as well as snacks, coffee, a fridge and lockers, and gaming stations to pass the time. The commuter lounge is a safe space for commuters to relax and study before, between, and after classes. In the future, CAB is in the process of planning an e-sports/gaming tournament.
