As the new year becomes ever and ever closer, the prospect of obtaining an internship for the summer seems like a must for many students. The Baldwin Wallace University Career Center on campus can help students with their summer internship needs?
The BW Career Center is an organization that aims to support both current students, alumni and employers with their career-oriented services.
According to the BW Career Center’s website, the Career Center team members are “committed to ensuring that all students are prepared with essential career management skills and will have equitable access to career connections and experiences.”
The Career Center can help students and alumni with a wide plethora of issues. From needing nice attire for an interview to helping make resumes that are more presentable to potential employers.
Dominique Edmonds, the Internship Coordinator of the Career Center, stressed the importance of independence while looking for an internship or job in the job market of today.
“For the most part when you think of an internship coordinator, you think of someone that will match you with an internship,” said Edmonds. “I don’t think it’s helpful for someone to do all of the work for you, mostly because I view internships as the first step into getting a professional job,” Edmonds said.
While the Career Center aims to open opportunities for students, it’s only one of the services that the BW Career Center offers.
“The main way the Career Center will help you find a job is to make sure that all of your materials are up to date and great.” Edmonds said.
“I think a really helpful tip is to know your resume and to hone in on it,” said Edmonds. The best thing you can do is to have details but not too many details so that the person that is interviewing you can ask more questions about what you do.”
The Career Center is located in the lower level of the Student Union in Strohacker Hall for those that wish to visit it.
