Baldwin Wallace University’s Chapter of Circle K International received recognition for its exceptional commitment to service at this year’s Ohio District Convention, which took place last month in Dublin, Ohio.
In the yearlong judging period for the convention, BW’s club organized or participated in more than 40 service projects.
The convention is an annual event where 19 Circle K clubs met for information and workshops on recruiting new members, searching for new service projects and ways to maintain the fun aspects of the Club.
In addition to learning new skills and meeting other Circle K clubs from around the state of Ohio, BW’s Circle K club received multiple awards for its accomplishments.
BW’s club won awards for “Outstanding President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Editor,” according to the club’s president, junior Maria Curcio. Additional individual awards were given for “Outstanding New Member” and “Outstanding Committee Chair.”
Individual award-winners at the convention were: junior Colleen Bodkin, junior Maria Curcio, senior Julia Donajkowski, freshman Maureen Giardina, junior Katy Johnson, and junior Christina Rueger.
The club also took home awards for “Most Outstanding Advisor” and the “Club Achievement Award” for best club. They also placed third for having the “Best Scrapbook.”
Curcio thought the club’s success at the convention was due to the amount of hard work contributed by all members.
“We are a small number of individuals, but accumulate a decent amount of volunteer hours,” Curcio said.
Curcio added that she is “proud of everyone who led our group this year and believes they deserved the recognition they received.”
Circle K’s mission revolves around three main components: leadership, service and fellowship. To involve these three factors into their work, Curcio says that, throughout the school year, they have socials, provide a range of service project opportunities and motivate members to immerse themselves in leadership positions within the organization.
BW’s Circle K is involved in a wide range of service projects. Circle K hosts campus events, assists other campus groups with their events and lends their philanthropic service outside of campus boarders with Berea’s Kiwanis Club and throughout greater Cleveland. Multiple foundations and organizations, such as the Suicide Prevention, Juvenile Diabetes Research, Ronald McDonald House and Wigs for Kids have also benefitted from BW’s Circle K volunteerism.
Curcio encourages all students to join in the Circle K philanthropic mission.
Any BW students interested in joining Circle K should contact Curcio at [email protected].
Circle K meets weekly on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. in the Quarry Room.
