BW Swimming and Diving Team Holds Senior Swim Night
The Baldwin Wallace Swimming and Diving team held their Seniors’ Night swim meet on January 28, with both the men’s and women’s team dropping decisions to Ohio Northern.
Though senior Kayla McClintock won BW the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:25.42, and senior Bella Ratino won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:32.27, the men’s team fell 154-80, and the women’s team fell 151-83.
The next night on January 29, both teams fell to Case Western Reserve University in an away meet.
Five seniors will be leaving the swimming team, four of which swim for the women’s team: Ratino, McClintock, Julia Newbould, Emily Newcamp, and Conner Hartup. Ratino said the past two years of her swim career were difficult because of COVID-19 and that the team did not receive the same amount of support at meets they regularly would have.
“From the people in the stands and also from the freshmen,” said Ratino. “The support at senior night and throughout the season means so much.”
Newcamp said she will miss her time at BW and the people she met.
“I am going to miss the swim team a lot,” said Newcamp. “And having a close group of friends that are like family.”
Despite the losses, BW will participate in the OAC Championships, which take place February 17-19 at the University of Akron.
