Baldwin Wallace University’s Greek Life Recruitment drew to a close on September 29 with Women’s Bid Day.
A record 192 women signed up for recruitment, and 175 went through the recruitment process. A total of 133 women accepted bids and joined one of the five sororities on campus.
Each chapter has a quota of 60 members they can reach, and this year the number of recruits allowed the sorority chapters to exceed this capacity.
The number of sorority pledges per chapter this year increased significantly compared to previous years. This year, the average was between 20 and 27 new members across all chapters.
“I was so excited about the enthusiasm for recruitment this year,” Paige Greene, Zeta Tau Alpha senior, said. “It’s a lot of hard work, but after receiving so many new sisters it’s definitely worth the long nights.”
“I think that’s nice, because it shows there’s a home for everyone,” Danielle Porter, Graduate Assistant for Greek Life, said. “It’s about making leaders, and that doesn’t happen in just one organization. Greek Life sets that initial foundation.”
This also allowed those going through Recruitment to be able to take away more than just a potential membership.
The Greek Life community hosted a Philanthropy Night during Recruitment, where each of the sorority and fraternity chapters showcased their respective philanthropy or service project of choice for potential members.
“It provides first year students an opportunity to get involved, even if they don’t join that specific fraternity or sorority,” Porter said.
“Even if you don’t join a chapter, the people you meet and the connections you build will help you in some way,” Matt Cintron, Sigma Phi Epsilon junior, said. “It’s fun, and it’s an experience you really only get in the college world.”
Despite an official end for Recruitment on September 29, BW Greek Life has a unique “365 days a year” recruitment.
If a fraternity or sorority is not at the chapter maximum for members, bids can be extended to potential members throughout the year.
