XC opens season against tough competition

The Baldwin Wallace women’s cross-country team opened their seasons at the 51st annual Tommy Evans Invitational located at the Silver Creek Metro Park Cross Country Trails in Akron.

The women entered the invitational ranked 16th in the nation and placed sixth out of 10 teams who were spread across Division I and Division II. Host school Akron University placed first in the event.

In the event, three Yellow Jackets notched career-best numbers, and the top-five Yellow Jackets finished 42nd or better.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior All-OAC selection Kelly Brennan who completed the 5k in a career-best time of 18:16.9. That was good enough for sixth place in the program.

Also leading the Jackets, crossing the finish line in 15th was Madison Kile who also recorded a career-best time at 18:51.3.

In all, five Yellow Jackets placed in the top 42. Alyssa Laughner crossed the line in 19:13.7, which was good for a top-25 finish. Coming in at 34th for the Yellow Jackets was Hastings Marek who’s new career best is 19:31.1.

Rounding out the top five was Molina Otte, finishing 42nd and completing in 19:42.8.

The next event for the Yellow Jackets is on Saturday, September 28th and they will travel to Cedarville to compete in the All-Ohio Championships. That event is hosted by Cedarville University and will take place on the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

The Baldwin Wallace Men’s Cross-Country team opened their season early in September competing at the 51st Annual Tommy Evans Invitational hosted by Akron University at the Silver Creek Metro Park Cross Country Trails.

The event was comprised of all Division I and Division II schools and was a 3.88-mile long event. Baldwin Wallace took sixth place out of seven teams.

Leading the charge for the Yellow Jackets was senior All-OAC selection Isaac Wilson, whose time of 20:52.6 was good enough for 27th.

The next three Yellow Jackets all finished within twelve seconds of each other and had just five opposing runners between them.

Junior Jose Reynoso finished in 21:33.1, and eight seconds behind him was fellow junior Spencer Roberts whose time of 21:41.7 placed him in 46th. Reynoso finished 40th.

Next up, was sophomore David Prather who rounded out the 12 second gap with a time of 21:45.2 and finished right behind Roberts at 47th.

Rounding out the top five for the Yellow Jackets was freshman Kyle White who placed in 58th position is his debut with a time of 22:21.5.

Next up for the Yellow Jackets is the All-Ohio Championships. That takes place on September 28th, and the team will travel to the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, as the event is hosted by Cedarville University.
