Women’s basketball looking to find groove at end of regular season

The Baldwin Wallace women’s basketball team is wrapping up their season this week as they close out against previously defeated OAC team, Wilmington, on Saturday, February 17.

After Saturday, they will move onto the to-be-announced playoff team. Overall, BW’s current record is 14-9.

BW fell to Otterbein 52-48, a close game throughout. The Yellow Jackets bounced back for John Carroll and Capital shortly after, shutting down both teams by significant point margins (JCU 80-63, Capital 77-51).

The game against Capital was significant because BW previously beat them by 2 points at home, but down in Columbus, BW defeated them by 26.

Following the big win against Capital, BW hosted Mount Union for senior night on Wednesday, February 14.

In a battle of fourth-place teams in the Ohio Athletic Conference, BW could not hold off the University of Mount Union, falling 83- 72 on Seniors’ and Parents’ Night inside Ursprung Gymnasium.

Senior Academic All-OAC guard Katie Smith and senior forward Megan Shubert were the two players honored for their contributions to the program over the last four years.

Together, they have a career overall record of 74 and 32 with a 49-28 mark in the OAC.

In a game where the Yellow Jackets shot just over 38% from the field, Mount Union came out victorious.

A slow first quarter on the offensive side of things proved to create a roadblock BW could not get over.

Coach Cheri Harrer said the team is continuing to gain momentum and will need to build on this week to go into the tournament strong.
