Women win first three meets

The Baldwin Wallace University women’s swimming and diving team has won three of their last five meets. On Oct 25-26 the Jackets hosted non-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opponents Bethany College, Manchester University and NCAA Division II Ursuline College. The Yellow Jackets secured two convincing wins over both teams, defeating Manchester 235-56 and Ursuline 235-52. Senior All-OAC freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) and sophomore All-OAC stroker Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) won three events leading BW to victory.

The Jackets endured a rough start of November, losing two dual meets in a row. On Nov. 2, the women faced Ohio Wesleyan University inside the BW Natatorium where they were defeated 134-100. The following week the Jackets competed in two road dual meets. On Friday, Nov 8, the Yellow Jackets competed in their first away dual OAC meet in Alliance, OH facing the University of Mount Union. BW fell to the Purple Raiders by a final score of 137-96. The Jackets (4-2) ended the weekend road trip with a 139-80 win over Pennsylvania State University at Behrend in a non-conference dual meet. BW will have nearly two weeks off before their next competition at Oberlin Invitational on Nov 22 with a scheduled start time of 6 pm.

As for the men, they began their season with a victory against Wilmington in the BW Natatorium but as the calendar flipped to November, so did their season. After a close loss to Ohio Wesleyan, BW fell to Mount Union and Penn State Behrend and were outscored by 48, and 86 points in those meets, respectively.

Against Mount Union, sophomore All-OAC stroker Michael Lewis won two events, and two others won events as well. Senior All-OAC performer Greg Shaw won the 100-yard butterfly and freshman diver Zach Pierce finished first in the one-meter diving events.

Lewis also won the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley against Ohio Wesleyan. Shaw won the 100-yard butterfly again, and junior stroker Michael Morsch won the 100-yard backstroke.

Up next for the Yellow Jackets is the Oberlin Invitational, taking place from Nov. 22-24.
