The No. 6 ranked Baldwin Wallace wrestling team defeated the No. 9 Mount Union Purple Raiders 22-9 in a match that decided the OAC champion.

This is the Yellow Jackets third straight OAC crown. All-OAC 165-pounder, Anthony Arroyo, who is ranked third nationally, paced the Yellow Jackets with a technical fall, while all other victors won by decision.

Earning victories by decision were sophomore 133-pounder Dante Ginnetti, freshman 149-pounder Stanley Bleich, Junior All-OAC 157-pounder Benjamin Hoof, junior 184-pounder Zeckary Lehman, senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan and senior 285-pounder Gabe Mahaney. BW, who lost two of the first three matches, closed out the match by winning six of the final seven.

The experience of the Yellow Jackets paid off again, with seniors Tyler McClellan and Gabe Maheney picking up the final two wins of the night.

“Going into tonight we were ready for the challenge of trying to win our third straight OAC title. We ignored the pressure and just looked at it like any other match. It was a great team effort and I could not be more proud to be a part of this three-peat,” said Maheney.

Both teams had large crowds behind them, with Maheney describing it as “such an intense atmosphere, everyone in the gym was yelling for either side and we just had to block all that out and wrestle the same way we would in any other match.”

The team competed in and placed 4th at the John Summa tournament, which was hosted at BW and defeated conference foe Heidelberg coming into the match against Mount Union.

The Yellow Jackets are now beginning to prepare for the team and individual Division III NCAA regional tournaments in the coming weeks, with the Division III National Championships the weeks after that.
