Baldwin Wallace University celebrates Trina Dobberstein’s success as she receives a national award.

Dobberstein, vice president of Student Affairs and dean of students, has been involved in higher education for over 30 years and has served in her current positions since 2005.
Dobberstein has been awarded with the Pillars of the Profession award by the National Association of Student Personal Administration (NASPA), in which an individual who has served as a prominent leader at their institution is recognized for their achievements.
Individuals are nominated and supported by colleagues, friends, or others who see them fit for the award.
“Receiving this award means a great deal,” said Dobberstein, “because it’s being affirmed by your peers. There are certain objectives that people look at that measure the success of your job. Most who have colleagues give us the recognition, which is very meaningful.”
The NASPA foundation gives administrators a chance to be recognized for their leadership roles and individuals who have continued to grow throughout their institution as well as throughout NASPA. The Pillars of the Profession is the highest honor given by the association.
“I am very honored and humble,” Dobberstein said, “because being an educator is all I’ve ever known. I’ve been at BW for about 14 years and as time passes I learn so much from a number of people and owe a debt of gratitude to those that surround me and have guided me with tips and challenges.”
Dobberstein said that the most enjoyable part of her job is “seeing the lightbulb go off for students.” Opening up students to new possibilities during their time at BW, she said, is a special aspect of her work.
The NASPA’s Annual Conference will take place in March of 2019 in Los Angeles, where Dobberstein will be awarded. The ceremony will also mark the association’s 100th year anniversary.
