Baldwin Wallace University’s Career Services will be holding the Career and Internship Expo in the Lou Higgins Recreation Center on Feb. 13.

The Career and Internship Expo is an annual job fair for students of all majors, minors, and class statuses to meet with potential employers. Some of the employers who will be present include City Year, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, and others. Beth Ehrbar, the Assistant Director of Career Services, expressed her excitement for the Expo.

“Certainly, [Career Services] is excited each year to provide a well-rounded group of employers, and by that, I mean [the program] really tries to represent cross-sections of industries: nonprofit, private, government, manufacturing, and social service,” said Ehrbar.

The Expo is an opportunity for students to explore their career paths outside of BW, which is crucial to their career
and professional development. It is also a chance for students to find ways to apply their degrees to real life experience. As Ehrbar said, finding an internship or volunteer opportunity at the Expo will lead students in the right direction to completing their Experiential Learning requirement.

In preparation for the event, Ehrbar advises students to take advantage of the Career Prep events that Career Services hold before the Expo.

“[Career Services], for example, have events in conjunction with the Psychology Club with how to develop positive body language as [a student] walks up to a table, how does [a student] introduce themselves,” she said.

Similarly, Career Services will be hosting an event titled Develop Your Game Plan, which is aimed to help students create a plan of action once they enter the Expo. The event is also designed to help build students’ confidence.

“Develop Your Game Plan is an opportunity,” said Ehrbar, “where we’ll have an employer with us, talking about what he expects or what he likes to see when a student walks up to the table, how do you introduce yourself, and what good questions [to] ask.”

Another piece of advice is for students to bring their polished resumes to the Expo. If a student wants to revamp their resume, or they have never made one, Career Services will have tables in the Union where career advisors can help students work on their resumes. Ehrbar also advises students to bring an up-to-date portfolio to the Expo: the career advisors will be handing out BW portfolios in career baskets at the information tables in the Union as well.

One final piece of advice for students is to get an understanding of what employers will be present at the Career Expo. Students can look at the growing list of organizations attending by checking their Handshake account.

Career Services is expecting about 80-100 employers, which is on par with the amount of employers bigger state schools bring in. They are also expecting 350-400 students.
