Big weekend ahead for women’s swim & dive

With Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Weekend quickly approaching, the Baldwin Wallace University women’s swimming and diving team has their work cut out for them.

The weekend will consist of preliminary events in the beginning of the day and then the finals will take place on that same night.

Junior Allie Thorson views this year’s OAC tournament as a potential record-breaking weekend for the Yellow Jackets.

“We hope to break more school records these next couple of days,” said Thorson. “Our coaches are excited to see all of the hard work we’ve put in all season come to fruition this weekend.”

The Yellow Jackets has promising upside in terms of distance events. Freshman Bella Ratino, a transfer from Division I University of Pittsburgh, is projected to make a splash at her first OAC Weekend.

Junior Erika Nockengost, a stroke swimmer who primarily works butterfly stroke, has been performing exceptional all season and is looking to keep the momentum in her favor this weekend.

BW is projected at both the No.1 and No.2 spot for 1-Meter Diving with junior Ellie Clymer and sophomore Lauren Franz.

Although the butterflies will be rumbling through the performer’s stomachs, the team will turn to their preparation throughout the entire season to make this big weekend count, Clymer said.

“I’m always nervous going into big meets, but that’s how I know I’m prepared,” said Clymer. “I perform well under pressure so going into the meet I’m just going to trust my body and have faith in the work I put in these past 6 months.”
